Berlin: There is trouble ahead for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the lobby of war. 63% of the Germans demand a complete withdraw of German forces from Afghanistan (1). 51% in the social-democratic government party „SPD“ also say „War is Over“.(2)While Angela Merkel´s party „CDU“ is still staying the course, there has been strong resistance against combat missions in Afghanistan in the other coalition-party SPD already.
On March 9, sixty-eight social-democratic lawmakers voted against sending German „Tornado“ war planes to the Afghan front.
Yesterday Kurt Beck, Chief of the SPD, announced, that war in Afghanistan must not last eternally.
„Up to the point of time X you must have made it to solve your security problems on your own,“ he said to the Afghans in an interview on Sunday.(4)
Although there is big anxiety in mainstream media about these peace tendencies of the Germans it seems that the third Republic simply does not want to go to war – against old odds.
There are more than 3000 German soldiers in Afghanistan, but their mission was to help in a most civilian way in north of Afghanistan.
After utterly useless air strikes and war crimes in south of Afghanistan by NATO forces, the majority of German people simply refuse to get involved in this, despite of annoying mendicancies of so-called „allies“.
The world public mainly doesn´t know about the fact that Chancellor Angela Merkel can be dismissed any minute.
Only the deep hostility between two old men, Vice-Chancellor Franz Müntefering (SPD) and Oskar Lafontaine (former Vice-Chancellor, SPD, now leader of the Left party) guarantees the war, the government coalition and Angela Merkel as Chancellor.
In September the SPD faction in German legislative branch „Bundestag“ will have to decide about ongoing war or going home.
Peace is brewing…
