Washington: „Tonight I must make it plain and clear that as a human being, as a citizen of the world, as a citizen of America, as a Member of Congress, as an individual committed to a world at peace with itself, I will not and I cannot in good conscience vote for another dollar or another dime to support this war.“ – Rep. John Lewis, March 19, 2007 House floor.(1)How do you think that kind of sentence to remember takes effect to the citizen of the world? Just think about it, only a few seconds. Okay, next one:
„“We may not win now, but we will set a trend“ – Rep. Elijah Cummings D-Md (2).
Is that a joke? Are you kiddin´?
There are hundreds of thousands dead in Iraq, the not-selfmade-President George W. Bush betrayed the American People (and not only them) with every word he said since he got in the White House, he spent hundreds of Billions in a way you don´t even got a clue because some Democrats were stuck in „trends“ and collaborating with the worst U.S. President in history, there is a new war on the horizon, which will more than double the doom for the United States of America, the „West“ and the whole world as we know it, and the leadership of the Democratic Party is willing to give George Bush, sorry, Dick Cheney 100 Billion Dollars more for his war in Iraq, which is lost, and a new war against Iran?
There are more than 100.000 mercenaries in Iraq (3). They are better paid than the U.S. troops, and they are better paid by YOU.
The U.S. soldiers suffer, they are tired, the got betrayed, hundreds of them commited suicide, they don´t get fair treatment when returned home and YOU don´t have the God damn guts to just say the simple word „NO“ to this?
If the resolution for continuing war funding fails in the House today, Dick Cheney will have to use emergency spending bills, that´s right, Mr. Jim McGovern (4), but you would be able to hold him responsible for that. But if you agree to the war funding, it´s YOU who will be held responsible for every action taken with that money – consider this.
„Only in the Beltway can a $124 Billion dollar spending bill for continued military occupation of Iraq be spun as anti-war legislation.“ (5)
These are the words of Bill Moyer, Director of the Backbone Campaign, and he is right.
You know, there are a few things in life, which are never just „a little“. Life itself, for example. Or death. Or war. Or pregnancy.
Sometimes there is only black and white, in terms of chess, and you have to decide. Stop flinching, stop falling back, stop that ugly surrender to the liars on the White Side, just look at the bright side:
It could be worse.
By you.
Good luck, Mr. Lewis. Go and get´em.
