Washington, Berlin: We, the people of the Planet Earth, know since Michael Moore´s „Fahrenheit 9/11“ (thanks to John Conyers, by the way..) that members of Congress of the United States of America „don‘t read most of the bills“.(1)
Well, at least other people do. Maybe even the People of America. And MAYBE even people, who want to fight the „global war on terror“…The main bill H.R.1591 (2), which will be debated in the Senate today (3), has 2 related bills, RES.261 and S.965.
In S.965 there is this special chapter about Lebanon, SEC. 1706.
It goes:
„Prior to the initial obligation of funds made available in this Act for assistance for Lebanon under the headings `Foreign Military Financing Program‘ and `Nonproliferation, Anti-terrorism, Demining and Related Programs‘, the Secretary of State shall certify to the Committees on Appropriations that all practicable efforts have been made to ensure that such assistance is not provided to or through any individual, or private or government entity, that advocates, plans, sponsors, engages in, or has engaged in, TERRORIST ACTIVITY“(4)
It´s nice to know, that the U.S. Parliament has the certain opinion the U.S. Government under George W. Bush should learn about this by the legislative branch.
It´s also interesting, that there hasn´t been any efforts by the Congress so far, neither the House nor the Senate, to bring this up just a little earlier than in 2007.
Very interesting.
It´s also good to know, that there are certain groups which are to be excluded from terrorist watch lists, like „the Chin National Front/Chin National Army (CNF/CNA)“, the Cuban „Alzados“, the „Hmong“ (who fought so bravely for the CIA in Laos (5)), just considering they are embedded in U.S. interests.
Just remember, Dear U.S. Congress: you are under surveillance by the Public Intelligence (called the „free press“, in former times) and, well, you know, there´s just one sentence left:
If you fail there, you will fail anywhere..
***
You are being watched.
AND WE DO NOT SLEEP.
