Berlin: Though some medias took it for sure – the German Foreign Ministry (or „German Foreign Office“) doubts allegations about killed German hostages made by telephone this morning.
„We take these statements very seriously and follow every hint,“ ministry speaker Martin Jäger said.
„But up to now we have no independent confirmation that an abducted German was murdered,“ he said (1).Jäger also said yesterday there had been two statements by two alleged Taliban speakers.
One of it had said that no Taliban were involved.
„We have a contradiction here“, he remarked. The Foreign Ministry would also doubt the Taliban as the abductors of the German hostages, Jäger said on Friday.
Indeed, there was a telephone call from alleged Taliban speaker Sabiullah Mudschahed (Zabiullah Mujahed) to news agency AFP yesterday, in which he told the press there were no Taliban troops involved in the abduction.
Since months there has been a broad public discussion in Germany whether the republic should step out of the worldwide „War On Terror“ (regarding the „Operation Enduring Freedom“, OEF) and should also withdraw from Afghanistan.(4)
But yesterday German Minister of Defence, Franz Jung, took his chance and declared preemptively that German troops would „continue their task“ in Afghanistan.(2)
There are vigorous discussions in German Government Party „SPD“ about that issue. Later this summer German Parliament, the „Bundestag“, will decide about three different war mandates for Chancelor Angela Merkel, who is member of the conservative „CDU“.
On July 13, ex-US official Dennis Ross said that he sees Germany as the „key“ in a likely Iran War.(5)
On May 19, alleged „Taliban“ claimed responsibility for an deadly attack on German soldiers at 11 am local time.
But German Secretary of Defense Franz Jung and the military command stated the attack on the German „Bundeswehr“ soldiers on May 19 happened at 10 am local time…(6)
